Dieter Wulfhorst
Cello
Dieter Wulfhorst became enamored with the cello at the age of eight by hearing it played often, by none other than Ernest Strauss, a member of the Strauss Quartet, who happened to be his best friend’s father. With the help of many great teachers, he became a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Germany. Wulfhorst performed as a substitute cellist for various professional orchestras while studying in Hanover and toured Australia, Southeast Asia and throughout Europe.
He moved to the United States in 1985, where he continued his studies at the University of Maryland at College Park with members of the Guarneri Quartet and Evelyn Elsing. There he earned his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. Wulfhorst held university teaching positions in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, and California. Currently, he is playing in some eight regional orchestras throughout California.
He lives in Grass Valley, CA.
