Enrollment and Financial Aid

Enrollment

REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 1ST 2021

Enrollment during the COVID-19 pandemic is limited and applicants will be notified if placed on a waitlist once classes become full. Placement videos are required for both Workshop and Performance Academy students. One exception is students who are learning a new instrument. Placement in all classes and ensembles is determined by experience, skill level and age, as well as musical balance and instrumentation for the ensemble, and is determined by the instructor. A $50 non-refundable payment is required with registration, which will be applied to tuition. If a student withdraws from Summer Music Academy and is eligible for a tuition refund, a $50 administrative fee will be retained from the refund. If the state or county requires us to cancel camp due to changing COVID-19 conditions, refunds will be issued. For more information, please contact Jane Shelly (jshelly@srsymphony.org), Summer Music Academy Registrar.

auditions

Workshop and Performance Academy ensembles require basic video auditions for placement to make sure you have the best possible camp experience. The requirements for these videos vary between among the groups as follows:

  • Workshop: Placement videos need to be submitted by mid-June. Please prepare any one or two scales that you know and a solo piece, however short, that you are currently working on.

  • Chamber Ensemble: Video auditions will be submitted by mid-June. Please prepare two scales of your choice and a solo selection of about 45 seconds that demonstrates your technical ability and is, in your judgment, performance-ready.

  • Jazz Ensemble: Video auditions are to be submitted by mid-June, based on the Jazz Ensemble audition materials, which will be made available in the spring.

Although you audition for your first choice ensemble, all ensemble placements are determined by SMA faculty and staff. Once you register for camp, you must complete the Video Placement form, available on the website, which allows you submit your placement video.

For questions about auditions, contact Matt Payne (mpayne@srsymphony.org), Youth Ensembles Manager.

Instruments

Musicians in all workshops and ensembles must provide their own instruments. Most percussion instruments are provided, but it is a good idea for percussion students to have their own set of instruments at home for practice. We recommend Stanroy Music and Loveland Violins in Santa Rosa as sources of rental instruments. Additionally, the Santa Rosa Symphony does have a very small library of instruments that may be available for loan. For assistance with instruments, please contact Matt Payne (mpayne@srsymphony.org).
