About the Concert

A surprisingly moving homage to Haydn, Caroline Shaw’s spare Entr’acte threads haunting sighs with fragments of a classical string quartet. Inspired by the exotic folk music of the Hungarian empire, Mozart’s festive and playful last violin concerto delights with endless invention as it alternates the gracious elegance of a Minuet with a boisterous Bachanalian frenzy. Rachmaninoff’s arch-Romantic Symphony No. 2 leads us from melancholy and nostalgia, through brilliant fugal writing, to a dazzling, exuberant finale.

". . . [Rhee] proved more than a master of the technical aspect of the score and instrument. He saw and performed the story. There was character in his interpretation." — Eugene Scene
