Henry Viets

Horn

Henry received a Bachelor of Music, Master of Arts, and a teaching credential while studying with Lori Westin, Bob Ward, David Sprung, Jonathon Ring, and Barry Benjamin. After winning the 4th horn position in 1986, he has had many, many incredible musical moments with the Santa Rosa Symphony.

These include performances of The Ring, Le Sacre du printemps, War Requiem, Beethoven 7th & 9th and concerts with Yo Yo Ma, Lang Lang, Hilary Hahn, Sarah Chang, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Olivia Newton John and the legendary Johnny Mathis. Truly the most memorable SRS experience was hearing Jeffrey Kahane perform the Pathetique Sonata the day after our beloved Charles Schultz passed away. Jeff had a bust of Beethoven and a Snoopy doll on the piano–the entire audience was gently crying. Besides being a member of the SRS, Henry has performed with the San Francisco Ballet, Sacramento Symphony, Chanticleer, Festival Opera, Skywalker Symphony, Festival Del Sole and other Bay Area groups.

When not playing or teaching at Berkeley Unified School District, Henry is taking care of three seriously overindulged cats and happily paddling at the Berkeley Marina with his friends.
