Free Concerts for Youth

This season’s Free Concerts for Youth are scheduled for October 24, 2022 at 9:45am, February 16, 2023 at 9:45 am and 11:15 am, and May 4, 2023 at 9:45 am, and 11:15 am for a total of five concerts. The IGNITE! program provides teachers with curriculum that prepares students to play recorder or sing along with the orchestra in a final performance at the Green Music Center. SRS provides recorders on loan, and provides IGNITE workbooks.  Please contact Laura Leipzig to reserve seats for your school. Post-concert feedback surveys are provided to teachers for Symphony measurement and evaluation purposes.

The Symphony presents six concerts per year (two by the SRS professional orchestra; four by SRS Youth Ensembles) at the Green Music Center's Weill Hall, serving 6,000 Sonoma County elementary students, teachers and chaperones. In addition to experiencing the grandeur of the concert hall, children are encouraged to view orchestral music as an integral aspect of artistic expression. This is often the child's first exposure to classical music. Many professional musicians credit attendance at a youth concert as the inspiration for pursuing a career in music.

"Most of my students have never been exposed to all the instruments and sounds of a symphony. We spent some time learning about the instrument families and tied the theme into one of our language arts stories. This made the field trip experience very meaningful...Learning music is a reward in our class and your program provided inspiration and motivation." A participating second grade teacher
