Summer Music Academy

Summer Music Academy offers an exciting three weeks of music immersion. Students can learn to play an instrument for the first time, or enrich their music studies, all while making new friends with  musicians from throughout Sonoma County. They will develop musicianship in choir and rhythm workshops and enjoy workshops and ensembles led by professional musicians, including members of Santa Rosa Symphony.

Classes take place on the beautiful campus of Sonoma Country Day School, 4400 Day School Place in Santa Rosa.

All registrations and payments must be received by June 12, 2018. A $25 Early Bird Discount applies to registration and tuition payment received in full on or before April 1, 2018.


Need-based financial aid is available for those who qualify. Applications for financial aid must be received by June 1, 2018.  APPLY NOW

Full Day WORKSHOPS (9 am - 3 pm)


Students are thoroughly immersed in the exhilarating world of music. Full days of music-making and instruction create a strong foundation for young musicians ages 5-23 with experience ranging from zero to three years of playing! Students are assigned to classes with peers of compatible skill level based on a simple placement survey and video.

  • Kinder Violin Workshop, ages 5-6
  • Violin or Viola, ages 7 and up
  • Cello, ages 7 and up
  • Guitar, ages 7 and up
  • Brass, ages 7 and up
  • Woodwinds, ages 7 and up


FULL DAY Performance Academy (9AM-3PM)

Audition based ensemble courses and advanced musicianship for older, more experience instrumentalists ages 9-23. Students are thoroughly challenged to bring their musicianship to the next level. Students focus on performance in an ensemble setting and deepen their musical understanding through composition, improvisation and conducting coursework. Students are placed in one of the following ensembles:

  • Prelude String Orchestra
  • Intermezzo String Orchestra
  • Chamber Ensemble*
  • Theater/Film/Media Ensemble* (all instruments welcome!)
  • Jazz Ensemble (all instruments welcome!)

*New in 2018: Now you can sign up "a la carte" for one week at a time of Chamber Ensembles or Theater/Film/Media Ensemble. Each week will have a specialized focus. Students may choose their favorites and create a full-day, three-week package by selecting one ensemble for each week.
