Summer Music Academy

In July of 2020, we were able to run a successful, in-person Summer Music Academy. We did so by making significant changes in course offerings and reducing class size in order to keep staff, teaching artists and musicians safe while learning at Sonoma Academy. We’re proud to announce that there were no known campus transmissions during camp last summer.
The information on these pages reflects the courses we were able to offer last summer and might be what will be offered in July, 2021. Here are some of the safety protocols we used to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on campus.

  • Limited the total number of students enrolled to 55
  • Required everyone on campus to wear a mask
  • Created exclusive instrument pods of no more than 12 students
  • Screened all staff, teaching artists and students for COVID symptoms before entering campus
  • Encouraged students to remain at least 6 ft apart in class and when on break
  • Made available hand sanitizing stations throughout campus
  • Held larger classes outdoors
  • Offered only string classes (eliminated all woodwind and brass classes)
  • Held lunchtime concerts only in the outdoor amphitheater
  • Limited visitors to campus

We are unable to predict the future, but hope to offer some version of Summer Music Academy this summer. We will update these pages as soon as we have more information.

Summer Music Academy offers an exciting three weeks of music immersion. Students can learn to play an instrument for the first time or enrich their music studies, all while making new friends with  musicians from throughout Sonoma County. They will develop musicianship in choir and rhythm workshops and enjoy workshops and ensembles led by professional musicians, including members of Santa Rosa Symphony.

Summer Music Academy takes place July 12-30, 2021.

Sonoma Academy offers spacious rooms, a beautiful accessible campus with lovely views, great performance and recreation spaces, and a shaded lunch area. The campus is located in Santa Rosa just seven minutes from US 101.
