C Major Moods – Young People’s Chamber Orchestra & Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra

November 20, 2026

Join us for an evening of two remarkable symphonies from the early nineteenth century, both of which are in the key of C!

This concert is a collaboration between the Sonoma State Symphony Orchestra (Directed by Alexander Kahn) and the Santa Rosa Symphony Young People’s Chamber Orchestra (Directed by Aaron Westman), who will join forces throughout the program.

On the first half of the program is the passionate and virtuousic Symphony no. 1 from 1847 by Emile Mayer, the most prolific female composer active in Germany during the 19th century. After the intermission we bring you Beethoven’s ground-breaking Symphony No. 1 (1800), the symphony that launched the Romantic period and put Beethoven’s name on the map as a symphonist. The Beethoven will be performed without a conductor, led from the violin by SSU violin/viola faculty member and YPCO Music Director Aaron Westman.
